1. Who we are
The Ride N Share platform is owned and operated by 1590753 B.C. Ltd. (the "Owner"), with technology services provided by TriOneness. We run community rideshare, P2P car rental, and boat ride services on Haida Gwaii, British Columbia, Canada. Brands operating under the same Owner include Ride N Share, Gud.ahl RidenShare, and Haida Gwaii RidenShare. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a Canadian under PIPEDA and BC's PIPA.
Indigenous Stewardship Notice: Ride N Share operates on the unceded ancestral territories of the Haida Nation. Place names, language content, and stewardship activities on the platform follow guidance from Haida community partners. Data about Haida community programs, stewardship, and traditional knowledge is treated with extra care and is never sold or licensed.
2. What we collect
- Account info: name, email, phone, role (rider/driver/captain), language preference, profile photo (optional)
- Driver/captain documents: driver's license, vehicle registration, insurance, boat license — used solely for verification, never shared publicly
- Location data: pickup and drop-off coordinates, in-trip GPS, only while a ride is in progress
- Trip history: rides taken, fares paid, distance, carbon savings
- Payment metadata: last 4 digits of card, transaction IDs (we never see or store full card numbers — those go straight to Helcim)
- Crypto wallet addresses: only if you choose crypto payment
- Skill share data: categories you offer, ratings from other users
- Device data: app version, OS version, crash logs (no IDFA tracking)
3. What we don't collect
We don't collect: full credit card numbers, social security numbers, passwords (those are hashed with bcrypt — even we can't read them), browsing history outside the app, contact lists, photos beyond your profile picture, or microphone/camera data unless you actively use the document upload or chat features.
4. How we use it
Strictly to operate the service: matching riders with drivers, processing payments, calculating carbon savings, sending in-app notifications, vetting driver documents, resolving disputes, and complying with Canadian tax and transportation law. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone. We do not use your data for ad targeting.
5. Who we share with
- Your driver/rider counterpart: name, photo, rating, and live location during an active ride
- Helcim (Canadian card processor) — only the payment amount, no personal details beyond what's required to settle
- NOWPayments (crypto processor) — only the order ID and amount
- Supabase (our database host, located in the EU/US) — encrypted at rest
- Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC): for P2P rentals, trip period timestamps, GPS breadcrumbs, odometer readings, incident reports, and Certificate-of-Insurance metadata may be shared with ICBC on a valid claim, audit, or law-enforcement request
- Government / legal: only when required by a valid Canadian court order or law enforcement request
5a. ICBC audit retention
P2P rental trip records (delivery / rental / return timestamps, GPS breadcrumbs, COI metadata, incident reports) are retained for seven (7) years as required by ICBC audit compliance. After 7 years they are archived in anonymized form for safety-statistics purposes only.
6. Where it lives
Your data is stored in Supabase (Postgres) in the AWS Canada Central region where available, encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.2+. Backups are encrypted and retained for 30 days.
7. Your rights
Under PIPEDA you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you — email privacy@ridenshare.ca
- Correct inaccurate data — most fields are editable in your Profile screen
- Delete your account and all associated data — request via Profile → Delete Account, or email us. Trip records may be retained in aggregated/anonymized form for tax compliance (CRA requires 6 years).
- Withdraw consent for non-essential data uses at any time
- Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca
8. Cookies & analytics
The website uses minimal cookies for session management. We are evaluating privacy-friendly analytics (e.g. Plausible) that don't track individuals across sites. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other ad-tech tracker.
9. Children
Ride N Share is for users 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, email us and we'll delete it.
10. Changes
We'll post any updates here and notify users via in-app notification at least 14 days before any material change.
