Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Ride N Share — from how fares work to how skill share trades happen. Still stuck? Email us.

When does Ride N Share launch?

We're targeting an estimated May 30, 2026 for the public launch on Haida Gwaii. Join the waitlist to get early access and updates as we get closer.

How are fares calculated?

Suggested fare is $0.30 per kilometre, with a $5 minimum and a $10 maximum surge over the suggested rate. The platform takes a 17% fee from drivers — among the lowest in the rideshare industry. So a 20 km ride suggests $6, and the driver keeps $4.98.

How can I pay?

Four options:

  • 💳 Card — Visa, Mastercard, Amex via Helcim (Canadian processor, secure hosted modal)
  • ₿ Crypto — BTC, ETH, USDC, USDT, XRP and 350+ coins via NOWPayments
  • 💵 Cash — Hand it to your driver, they confirm in-app
  • 🤝 Skill Share — Trade your skills instead of cash
What is skill share?

Instead of paying cash, you can offer a skill — electrical, carpentry, tutoring, music lessons, anything — to your driver as payment. Both parties agree on terms in-app, and a small platform fee (the lower of $3 or 3%) keeps it sustainable. The skill is delivered after the ride, and both sides confirm completion.

How do I become a driver or boat captain?

Visit the For Drivers page and join the waitlist as a driver. You'll upload your driver's license, vehicle registration, and insurance (or boat license + insurance), and we'll review and approve you within 48 hours of launch. There's no monthly fee, no booking fee — you keep 83% of every fare.

Is the app available in Haida?

Yes — both Skidegate (Xaayda Kil) and Old Massett (Xaad Kil) dialects are built in, alongside English. Every menu, button, and notification can be viewed in the language of the land. We humbly ask Haida elders and language keepers to help us refine the translations — sign up on the homepage as a Haida Steward.

How does the 10% charity donation work?

Every Monday, 10% of the previous week's platform profit is automatically donated to the current featured charity. The current charity is Islamic Relief Worldwide, focused on Palestine emergency food aid. Charities rotate over time and are personally vetted for transparency, legitimacy, and impact.

Can I rent my car or boat to other locals?

Yes — the Community Car Rental feature lets any local list a vehicle of any year. Platform fees are tiered by vehicle age:

  • 0–4 years old → 19% platform fee
  • 5–9 years old → 26% platform fee
  • 10+ years old → 33% platform fee

This means older cars keep more value for the owner — fairness baked into the model.

Is my payment information safe?

Yes. Card payments go through Helcim's PCI-compliant hosted modal — Ride N Share never sees or stores your card details. Crypto payments go through NOWPayments with on-chain verification. We use HMAC-signed webhooks to prevent payment forgery.

How does carbon tracking work?

Every shared ride saves an estimated 0.23 kg of CO₂ per kilometre versus solo driving. The app tracks your cumulative savings and shows your impact in the My Impact tab. Trees planted, carbon offset, dollars donated — all in one place.

What does "Good for you and me for the trees" mean?

It's our motto. Sharing rides reduces emissions, keeps money circulating locally, and honours the land we live on. Good for you (your wallet, your time), good for me (the driver earning more, the community connecting), and good for the trees (less carbon, more stewardship).

How do I report a problem or dispute a ride?

In the app, every ride has a "Dispute" button after completion. Tap it, describe the issue, and our team will review within 24 hours. For pre-launch questions, email hello@ridenshare.ca.
